The Texas Education Agency has released the preliminary ratings in the 2018 A to F Rating System. It is important to remember that TEA says this is a "work in progress" model. The ratings that will be released officially in two years will include other factors. This grade is a "what-if" scenario. It has no official meaning.  We have recently learned that TEA will give a “model” grade again after this school year (2016-2017), however, it also will not be official.  Officially, Texas currently has only one rating system and it is either “Met Standard” or “Improvement Required.”  Caldwell and the campuses have had the “Met Standard,” or the highest rating for a while. CMS and CHS have earned more than the average number of “distinctions” in the current system.

This new letter grade system will incorporate a number of measures. Currently the model highlights four areas:

  • Student Achievement
  • Student Progress
  • Closing Performance Gaps
  • Post-secondary Readiness

CISD had a B, D, C and C in these four targets. Superintendent Andrew Peters reminds us that these grades are based on 15-16 STAAR scores and 14-15 attendance data.  There are significant areas of concern with this new system. Peters expects TEA to make significant modifications to the system. “It is just difficult to put a single letter grade on a school district or a campus. Each community is different; every campus has a different set of challenges. One system cannot measure an entire district.” Peters stated.
